Recently we discussed Acetyl Carnitine and it’s potential use in burning fat. For today’s post we’ll be taking a look at 5-HTP, which is being touted as a natural appetite suppressant.
So what is 5-HTP?
5-HTP is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in nature, including the seeds of Griffonia Simplicifolia, a West African shrub.
In addition, 5-HTP is made naturally in the body from an amino acid called tryptophan, which is found in much of the food we eat. Eating foods containing tryptophan, such as meat, fish, bananas, peanuts, does not produce much 5-HTP in our bodies though. So taking supplemental 5-HTP will deliver it in doses much greater than we can attain from our regular diet. But what exactly does it do, specifically for weight loss through appetite suppression?
